While these two iconic events are expected to draw huge crowds for good reason, this year there’s a few more options for the more wine-centric individual.
Here’s my top 5 ways to celebrate Australia Day the most Aussie way possible … with wine.
1) Music, booze and a barbecue at Philip Shaw Wines
Philip Shaw has invited the public to join them for the first in a series of monthly live-music events featuring some of the region’s best musicians.
This Saturday will feature the soulful tunes of Josh Maynard and Josie Laver.
The Shiralee Road vineyard will stoke up the fire pit for a gourmet meat barbie for their locally crafted Aussie Day afternoon.
Their full range of Philip Shaw Wines will be available, alongside local beer and cider.
The family friendly event is free and runs from midday to 5pm.
2) Singing, dancing and snags at Stockman’s Ridge Wines
Stockman’s Ridge Wines will invite wine lovers to celebrate Australia Day with Karaoke King, James Caulfield.
The Boree Lane winery has encouraged all to grab a mate or a group and head to Lidster for an evening barbecue, singing and dancing.
Wines will be available for purchase from the cellar door as will beers, soft drinks and spirits.
This party is not for the children and those over 18 are encouraged to head to Stockman’s website to buy a $25 ticket ahead of the event.
Karaoke with the King runs from 6pm until late.
A bus departs from the Orange Visitors’ Centre to get you there safely.
3) Street food, thong throwing and Neil Gill at The Greenhouse
The Greenhouse of Orange want the public to don their Dunlops and Akubras and head upstairs for a good ol’ Aussie shindig.
The Ex-Services’ good-looking neighbour will attempt to pack as many Australian traditions as it can into one day.
The midday to 11pm party will see Neil Gill and mate perform some Aussie classic tunes, DJ Elliegant, a thong throwing and lamington eating competition and a pop up bar from Small Acres Cyder.
Everyone is welcome. Shearers singlets are not.
4) Jumping castles, tunes and water activities at Duntryleague
The Duntryleague Golf Club will put on a family friendly event with a jumping castle and water activities served alongside its snags.
The afternoon on the lawn will include a barbeque, music, lamingtons and a pop up outdoor bar.
Admission is free. Chairs and rugs are encouraged. Food and beverages will be available for purchase (so don’t pack a picnic).
The party on the lawn kicks off at 1pm.
5) Yabbies, races and Aussie music at the Millthorpe bowls club
The Millthorpe Club will open their doors to families for yabbie races, music and a barbeque.
The bowls club on Elliot Street will have a jumping castle and a thong throwing competition to go alongside its novelty races.
The bistro will be open for food and booze and social bowls will take place for those brave enough to stand Saturday’s heat.
Doors will open from 12pm. Events will commence at 1pm. The first bowls will roll at 2pm.
