Anglicare co-ordinator Garrett Baird said the number of people and families seeking help due to factors including rental stress was rising.
“We do get a lot of families. We get a lot of phone calls asking if we can help,” he said.
Mr Baird said Anglicare officers went with people to Housing Plus or the Department of Housing to try and find accommodation.
They also provide vouchers for people to use at the FoodCare service in Glenroi.
“We have noticed an increase of people attending FoodCare in the last six months,” he said.
Anglicare provides an annual detailed report of housing for people on support.
The latest, released last April, showed there were only 138 properties in Orange that could be afforded by people on assistance.
That is down from 248 three years earlier.
And it showed there were no places available that people on the Parenting Payment for Singles, the Disability Support Pension or the Youth Allowance could afford.
Mr Baird said the situation had likely worsened since that report.
Orange is now the most expensive place in the Central West to rent with the median price for houses at $370 a week and units at $265 a week.
That is up six per cent on a year ago according to the latest Domain Rental Report.
