The Bluebaggers are sitting one point behind Dubbo on the standings, but have played one less game than their northern counterparts – who have the bye this week.
Skipper Daryl Kennewell said depth with the ball would be crucial in Sunday’s game, with the temperature in Parkes expected to pass 40 degrees.
Eight of the 12 named for Orange are able to hold their own with ball in hand, and Kennewell said “if I have to bowl 11 to ensure player welfare, I will”.
“I don’t reckon too many will be bowling 10 overs in that heat so having more on offer is probably for the best,” he said.
Kennewell is champing at the bit to claim top spot in the WZPL after the side’s tie against Cowra last start.
“We probably missed a few tricks last time so this is a chance to get back,” he said. “We’re pretty confident we can get the job done.”
He said taking the wicket of Zach Bayliss – who hit 51 in Parkes’ opening game – early was crucial for Orange’s chances.
Meanwhile with bat in hand, Orange looks a weaker side without Josh Doherty, Lachie Coyte and Nick Dunlop, but Kennewell is backing the men in form to hit runs, and said the tail should add an extra “50 or 60” runs if the batters hit 150.
- Orange: Kaleb Cook, Matt Corbin , Jack Dodds, Bailey Ferguson, Hugh Le Levire, Mitch Black, Angus Cumming, Daryl Kennewell, Fletcher Rose, Zac Reimer, Cameron Rasmussen, Ed Dodds.
