President Lester Davis said they mitigate the risk when they ride as a group, but car driver carelessness and unintentional mistakes mean riders are on edge when they’re on the road.
“I was taught to always ride with an escape route in mind,” he said.
Mr Davis said he doesn’t believe most motorists would intentionally try to intimidate bikers, but accidents often happen because drivers simply haven’t seen the person on the bike.
For this reason, the Ulysses motorcycle club have launched a road safety campaign which see motorcyclists in high-visibility vests with ‘Joe Rider’ printed on the back ride around Orange in February.
The public is encouraged to report sightings of ‘Joe’ by completing a coupon which will be printed in Saturday issues of the CWD from February 2 with the time, date and location of the rider.
Coupons can be handed in at 190 Lords Place, and a $50 cash prize winner will be drawn each week for the month of February. At the end of the month two cash prizes of $200 will be drawn.
Ulysses members held at dinner at Wentworth Golf Club on Friday night.
