Wednesday’s max of 37.5 degrees was reached at 4.20pm, well below the state’s hottest temperature of 48.2 in White Cliffs.
It fell just short of Orange’s highest recorded January temperature of 38.1 degrees on January 12, 2013.
The heatwave conditions were set to continue throughout the week, with 37 degrees forecast for three days in a row until Friday.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Olenka Duma said temperatures were well above average across NSW for this time of year.
“Our climatic report suggested it was going to be a hotter and drier summer so this is not entirely unexpected,” she said.
