James Pang took over the restaurant from former owner Kim Su in November and closed it for renovations, reopening it as 88 Chinese Restaurant on January 9.
“I set it up for a friend of mine [in 2009] so people thought it was mine,” he said with a laugh.
Renovations included a kitchen overhaul and an update to the decor, with the menu consisting of traditional Asian dishes and Australian Chinese cuisine.
Mr Pang also owns the buffet at Orange City Bowling Club and said the opportunity was too good to pass up.
“I just wanted to try it,” he said.

Currently an administrative and technical assistant, she now works in the financial planning section of MBC, performing both administration and para-planning duties.
An MBC spokeswoman said to have a staff member show loyalty of 25 years was incredibly special.
“Reagan provides a great understanding of the business, the clients and the staff,” she said.
“Reagan is dedicated and often goes above and beyond what is expected of her and we hope to hang onto her for a few more years yet.”
