NSW Rural Fire Service crews are fighting a blaze about 20 kilometres from Orange, with winds fanning the fire’s smoke in the city’s direction.

The fire is at Freemantle Road near Gowan, east of Ophir, in the Cabonne shire.
As of 8am on Sunday, it had burned through 17 hectares and was rated ‘out of control’.

According to a Canobolas Zone NSW RFS statement, the “north-easterly winds are pushing the smoke towards Orange and surrounding districts”.
Crews are being assisted in fighting the blaze by a Helitack helicopter, which has been tasked to the scene.
Elsewhere in the district NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel continue to mop up the Curembenya blaze, which burned out more than 2000 hectares in the Goobang National Park near Manildra last week.
That fire, also in the Cabonne Shire, is under control.
