Traffic was stopped at rail crossings in Summer, Byng and Dalton street after boom gates were activated due to power outages during a large thunderstorm on Monday night.
A John Holland spokesperson said John Holland’s Network Operations centre became aware of the fault about 9.30pm and it was repaired and officially certified shortly after midnight.
However, the flashing lights were deactivated at the Summer Street crossing soon after 10.45pm.

During the crossing closures officers from the Central West Police District were present to help manage traffic, which had to use alternate routes to travel east or west.
“To protect the public, the boom gates at level crossings are designed to lower in the event of loss of power,” the spokesperson said.
“For extended outages, John Holland personnel work with local police to both ensure the ongoing safety of motorists and minimise traffic disruption.”
“We thank local police for their help in managing traffic and keeping drivers safe through the storm.”
