The storms are forecast to strike on Tuesday afternoon, Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje said, and are expected to reappear over the next few afternoons.
“We are expecting the possibility of more thunderstorms on Wednesday, and even Thursday and looking into Friday so each afternoon the next couple of days we could see some thunderstorms,” he said.
Temperatures in Orange are forecast to reach 27 degrees on Tuesday and 28 on Wednesday.
While warm, the temperatures and storms are a far cry from the mid-30-degree days reached in the city in the past few weeks.
Mr Cronje said Tuesday's thunderstorms are not expected to be as severe, but “any thunderstorm can produce hail”.
“Specific severe weather is not necessarily expected from these [storms], but having said that, thunderstorms could produce strong winds and heavy rain, localised heavy falls and hail,” he said.
The senior meteorologist said rainfall is also not expected to be particularly heavy, with no more than 10 millimetres in Tuesday’s forecast.
In the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday there was 24.2 millimetres recorded in Orange.
