Now, he’s being lauded as one of Orange’s best bats for his age, representing the city as part of Western’s side in the Kookaburra Cup under-14s competition in Albury-Wodonga, starting on Monday.
Fisher has averaged nearly 50 with the bat across three digs for Orange in the Mitchell Cricket Council’s games, including a 61 against the Blue Mountains and an unbeaten 27 against Lithgow.
That form has seen him named in the Western side alongside fellow Orange young gun Angus Cornish, and spent two days last week in Dubbo training with the rest of the side.
Fisher said he wasn’t expecting the selection.
“I like rotating the strike … I don’t think I’ve got any players influencing my game, I just watch the ball,” he said.
Dan and Jo Hunter have done a lot of work with him to help his technique, and he praised Orange City for not just becoming a second home for his family but also improving him as a cricketer.
He’ll try to do them proud when games begin on Monday.
