When the Mudgee Guardian put the call out for photos showing how people are beating the heat, we were expecting photos of kids in pools and dogs in the river. While that certainly was the case, one photo in particular stood out enough that we just had to know more.
With temperatures floating in the mid to high thirties, people are getting inventive when it comes to beating the heat.
James Seis, aka ‘Seisy’, posted a photo of what looked like a large inflatable pool set up inside his home...in the living room.
Not everyone will ever get to live in such luxury as to own a living room pool, which is why we tracked Seisy down for a chat to ask what possessed him to do this.
MG: Firstly, how and why?
James: It was just one of those stinking hot days I was in Mudgee walking around Target and saw the pools for sale for $20 and the idea just came straight to me to put it in the lounge room because it was too hot to put it outside (laughs).
MG: It looks like it barely fit.
James: I had to rearrange the furniture a little but I got it in there.
MG: Did you worry about damaging anything inside?
James: I had a couple of concerns about it splitting but I threw a tarp down underneath just in case the floor of the pool got a hole in it.
MG: I see that it's in front of the TV, what did you do once you were in?
James: I opened a can of Wild Turkey and put some music on.
MG: How long was it in operation before you emptied it?
James: I emptied it the next day with a siphon hose, which took about an hour.
MG: Was it worth it all in the end?
James: Absolutely I had two mates over as well so there were three of us in there. Summer isn't over so it might make another appearance (laughs).
