Those who access support via the service provider’s two mental health programs – Enhanced Adult Community Living Support and the Personal Helpers and Mentors program – were treated to a traditional feast, with carols rounding out the festivities.
Mission Australia support worker Georgina Schmich said the event was a great opportunity for clients to get together and have some fun.
“For so many of the people we provide support to, Christmas can be an incredibly isolating time,” she said.
Sometimes this is their only opportunity to feel comfortable and safe in the wider community during this time of year.

“We want to make sure that these people have the opportunity to connect with each other as well as the staff present, and have a fun day during the festive season.”
She said the event held special significance for the organisation’s clients.
“Sometimes this is their only opportunity to feel comfortable and safe in the wider community during this time of year,” Mrs Schmich said.
“As the year comes to an end, the luncheon is a fantastic way to celebrate the year that has been.”
“As well as having some musical staff members sing some carols, gifts were also given to all clients who attended.”
Sutcliffe Meats donated Christmas hampers that were given to clients, which Mrs Schmich said “may be the only gift” some of the clients would receive this Christmas.
