Central West Police District Inspector Shane Jessep said one car allegedly reached speeds of more than 140 km/h.
Inspector Jessep said both drivers had also been charged with drink-driving, one with a high range PCA after tests revealed a blood alcohol level of .168, which is more than three times over the legal limit.
After blood alcohol testing the Commodore driver returned a PCA of .168 and the Falcon driver had a PCA of .092.
He said police spotted two vehicles, a Ford Falcon and a Holden Commodore “which appeared to be racing each other” on Summer Street at about 11pm on Friday.
Inspector Jessep said the vehicles turned into Anson Street and were pursued by police.
He said police would allege the cars were travelling in excess of 100km/h at the time.
