According to the Bureau of Meteorology’s data collected at Orange Regional Airport there was 37.6 millimetres of rain to fall in 24 hours to 8am.

Incredibly, 20 millimetres fells between 12.30am and 12.45am, while wind gusts of up to 65km/h howled during the same 15-minute stretch.

Despite the wild weather, were no reports of serious damage to homes, and despite a flash flooding warning in Borenore rising waters never eventuated.

SES Orange controller Kim Stevens praised the “excellent work” of 14 SES volunteers who worked through Thursday afternoon until 11pm, and then again early on Friday morning after the midnight storm to respond to fallen trees.

All major jobs are taken care of, and Mr Stevens said all homes requesting assistance had been visited, and help would be provided as best they could.

Mr Stevens also thanked Rural Fire Service volunteers and Fire and Rescue NSW crews for assistance. 

Several houses across the city were damaged, with one at Lucknow having “several holes” in it due to a fallen tree. 

The storms followed downpours of 9.6 millimetres in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday, and 11 millimetres in the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday.

According to www.weatherzone.com.au’s seven-day forecast there are further thunderstorms “likely” in the region on Friday.

There is a “high chance of showers” and a “thunderstorm likely, possibly severe”.
