They are being assisted by the Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and Rescue. 

Trees and branches had fallen all over the city, but there were no reports of injuries or serious damage to houses. 

However, Orange SES controller Kim Stephens said there were “several trees on houses” around the city, but it was too early to determine the extent of the damage.

One large tree was down blocking Ophir Road, which RFS Canobolas Zone teams were responding to alongside SES crews. 

In a forty-minute period on Thursday afternoon, five millimetres of rain fell in just seven minutes at 5pm, with 7.8mm recorded since 9am on Thursday after the Bureau of Meteorology warned of severe winds and hail. 

Eight-year-old Adelaide Thompson was watching the rain out the window of her National Avenue house before she saw a massive tree fall across the road. 

She said there was nothing to give away that the tree was falling. 

“It was really scary and I thought I was dreaming,” she said.

“It was heavily raining and it was windy a lot and it was starting for two minute and the three just fell.”

She said it was “kind of scary”, but SES crews were on scene shortly afterwards clearing the road in front of a small crowd.
