The reigning joint champions – they tied in last year’s decider against Bathurst – downed Parkes by 71 runs at No.1 Oval on Sunday and now hold a one-point lead over Orange, after the Bluebaggers were resigned to a tie by Cowra.
In a potentially crucial point, Dubbo has played one more game than Orange, and so the Bluebaggers still have a huge chance of sealing the minor title with wins over Parkes and Bathurst.
Skipper Daryl Kennewell, who admitted his side should’ve won on Sunday, isn’t thinking about that though.
“Focus is the same as always for us,” he said after Sunday’s tie with Cowra.
“We’ll just keep focusing on the next game, keep trying to get the results we want and see what happens from there.”
That next game is against Parkes on January 19, on the road at Woodward Oval, before their final game of the competition’s regular season against Bathurst at Wade Park two weeks later.
The latter also doubles as a Mitchell Cricket Council President’s Cup encounter, Orange remains on top of the ladder in the that competition.
