The green and golds led by three heading into last weekend’s second day and promptly rolled through the maroons – who led the competition prior to the round six clash – for a second time in as many weeks, skittling them for 117.
That left CYMS needing 115 for victory from the minimum 43 overs left in the day, the green and golds ultimately securing their outright win with four of those still in the bank, and three wickets left as well.
With those 12 competition points and Cavaliers claiming zero, CYMS now boast a six-point lead at the top of the table.
It’s not from Cavaliers though, who actually drop down to third thanks to the defeat.
Orange City knocked off Centrals at Riawena, and also jump ahead of the maroons thanks to that first innings win.
CYMS started the second day at Wade Park in the box seat and never dropped out of it, skipper Chris Novak (3-40) took the crucial scalps of in-form bats Ryan Kurtz (12) and Matt Corben (3) early to leave Cavaliers 2-15.
Josh Doherty (31), who was the only bat to pass 20, and Hudson Izzard (12) mounted a small fightback and pushed the score to 54 but from then on wickets fell regularly.
Hugh Le Lievre (3-20) continued his good form with the ball and Mitch Winslade (2-52) chipped in with a couple of scalps as well, while two run outs hurt Cavaliers immeasurably as well.
CYMS’ chase wasn’t entirely convincing as Tom Belmonte (25) was the only one of the side’s top five to make it past 20, but Le Lievre (26 not out), Mick Hannelly (18) and Mitch Winslade (12) all contributed vital runs to get the green and golds home with time to spare.
Kurtz (4-31) and Doherty (3-36) both pushed hard to flip the result, or at least try to avoid the outright.
CYMS will look to consolidate their spot at the top in the last two weeks before Christmas, when they face Kinross and Centrals in 50-over, one-day games.
Jeremy Bartier was the star for the Warriors at Riawena Oval, producing a composed 71 to inspire his side’s first innings win over Centrals.
He was 24 not out as his side resumed at 3-67 in reply to the red and blacks’ 138, after entering the fray in the first over of Orange City’s innings.
He’d added 44 with Lachlan Coyte (42) at the back end of day one, and they put on another 38 on Saturday afternoon.
Coyte fell at 105, and then it wasn’t until the 65th over when Bartier fell. He was the seventh wicket to fall and with the score at 176, his match-winning performance was well and truly complete.
The Warriors were eventually rolled for 192, with a lead of 52 skipper Ed Morrish sent Centrals back in to search for an outright result.
Time wasn’t on Orange City’s side though and Centrals finished the day 6-97, with Jake Pauletto (42 not out) doing a superb job.
