And she’ll need a fair chunk of her annual allocation from lady luck on Friday if she’s to train the winner of the $50,000 Robert Oatley Vineyards Mudgee Cup (1600 metres) after both Dapperized and Ima Baker were handed wide barriers.
The pair of Williams gallopers will jump from barrier 13 and 14 respectively – the two widest gates – for the rich showcase feature at the Mudgee Race Club.
Dapperized looms as Williams’ best shot entering the race on his home track with back-to-back wins in his last two starts, but the Mudgee-based trainer admitted the unfavorable draw isn’t ideal as she searchers for her maiden Mudgee Cup win.
"Look, you’ve got to be realistic and against the quality in this field we’ll need a lot to pan out the right way, everything will need to suit the horse,” Williams said.
“I've done my bit as trainer and it’s now up to the jockeys to do their’s now. The horse will measure up in terms of ability, but it’ll come down a lot to luck in the running.
“(Dapperized) is a nice little bread-and-butter horse and he’s been consistent with Greg (Ryan) on board.”
Williams has also prepared Iona Nicconi in the $35,000 Wild Oates Mudgee Cup Day Sprint, the six-year-old mare returning from a short spell.
Williams said the biggest issue with Iona Nicconi leading into the 1200-metre sprint will be the distance.
The bay mare’s most recent wins have been a further furlong in distance.
“She had a bit of a set back and she’s freshened up now. She is better suited to further distance but the race is at our back door and the track is looking good so we thought we’d start back up here,” she added.
“There will be plenty of speed, which will suit her, but we’re not expecting miracles.”
Gulgong’s Brett Thompson has Sugar Dance in the sprint, while Cameron Crockett has highly-rated Nictock and Ori On Fire in the field.
David Smith’s Bezel and Free Ticket from the Mack Griffith stable are both in the cup field.
