Police found the car with its reverse lights lit-up and engine running, and it then took several attempts to get Aaron Schuberth, 25, of Kurim Avenue to wake up.
Police tried to conduct a breath test but he fell asleep three times before he gave a sufficient sample.
According to police he passed the breath test but failed a sobriety test and was arrested and being guided to the police vehicle so he could be taken to hospital for a blood test when he broke free, ran down the road, doubled back and ran onto the porch of a house where he became trapped due to the railing.
Police said he then dropped to his stomach and started crying and apologising.
