The Western NSW Junior Carnivals continue to grow, with this summer’s editions set to welcome a host of new sides to Orange.
The draws for 2018-19’s under-13, under-15 and under-15 girls’ carnivals were released this week, with the former age group welcoming two more teams than last season, maintaining the event’s seemingly continuous expansion.
While the two latter competitions will welcome the same number of outfits as last summer, a handful of new teams will compete.
Inner West Harbour, Penrith, Illawarra, Parramatta and South Eastern will all join the under-13 carnival after not competing last year, replacing Mosman, Bankstown, Camden and St Ives. An Orange side will also take the field, while North West Sydney will send two sides instead of one.
Last summer’s champions South Coast will return, although most of last year's title-winning side is expected to have aged out, with some set to take the field in the under-15 tournament.
South Coast didn’t compete in last year’s under-15 tournament, and this year will have to contend with two-time defending champions Blacktown and the other new outfits in North West Sydney, Sydney Academy, Mosman, Penrith, Illawarra and a second ACT side as well.

With even numbers entering the under-15 division there’ll be no Orange side competing, however Mitchell has entered as usual, in the under 13s too.
Western Zone will once again have to try and take down the powerhouse ACT in the girls’ competition, the latter side having won the first two titles.
Gordon is set to send two sides while Penrith returns as well, with an Invitational XI to take the place of Brisbane North this summer.
The Western NSW Under-13 Carnival runs from January 7 to 10, with the under-15 and under-15 girls’ tournaments being held the week after.
