An early blitz from firebrand quick Brett Causer set up Orange City’s easy Royal Hotel Cup win over Kinross on Friday night, one that boosts the Warriors’ finals hopes significantly and essentially ends the students’.

Causer ran rampant at the top of Kinross’ dig, on his way to excellent figures of 3-14 he took three of the students’ first four wickets in next to no time to help leave them reeling at 4-20.
Although Charlie Greer and Stu Crisp mounted a small fightback by adding 37 for the next wicket it wasn’t enough, the students eventually finished 9-90 and Orange City knocked that off with six wickets and seven overs to spare.
“Pinsy (Causer) bowled really well, really tight lines, and set it up for us,” Orange City skipper Ed Morrish, who snared two catches at first slip off Causer, said.
“We were hoping to roll them reasonably cheaply and knock it off quickly to get a bit of a net run rate boost, so it was a good win when you think about it that way.
“We’ll just try and win our next couple of games now, get ourselves a semi-final spot and reassess from there.”
The Warriors move into top spot in pool A thanks to the win although both Lithgow and Bathurst’s St Pat’s Old Boys have yet to play their second games.
Kinross, on the other hand, are now winless on the bottom from two starts and with an ordinary net run rate of -3.115 they’ll need to win their last two preliminary games by massive margins and hope other results fall their way to even have a sniff of progressing.

Kinross skipper Sam Ridley won the toss and batted on a green Wade Park deck, a decision that proved the wrong one as Causer immediately removed Will Luelf (0), Harry May (4) and the skipper himself (0).
Craig Rogan also ran out Alex Brien (1) from the boundary in that period, before Greer (33) and Stu Crisp (27) mounted a small fightback.
Once the latter was removed with the score at 57 the Warriors rolled through Kinross’ lower order with relative ease, Shaun Grenfell (2-14) also took multiple scalps.
Orange City lost game one hero Dave Boundy (7) reasonably early, but Darren Barrett (28) and Lachlan Coyte (32) got the chase back on track.
Morrish made just 7, but Grenfell (0 not out) and Rogan (4 not out) finished the job, with 15 sundries also helping the Warriors’ cause.
Kinross will have one more crack at getting on the paddock against the Saints on Wednesday night – the game’s been washed out and rescheduled twice – before the competition continues on Friday when Bathurst City faces reigning champions Centennials, both sides are winless so far.
