Sri Lanka Mission
In the holidays I travelled to Sri Lanka with fourteen other students and four teachers to take part in James Sheahan’s Mission Project. After a week traveling across the most diverse and beautiful country, we arrived in Mannar to teach in the De LaSalle Primary Schools.
The children at the school welcomed us with open and energetic arms, wanting to play and talk with us. Over the course of the week our teaching teams taught classes in English, Math, Science, Music and Dance.
The children had such a zest for life and their innocence touched our hearts. I will never forget their smiles. The De La Salle Brother’s Mission to better the future of Sri Lanka through education was something to admire.

New Zealand Netball
With great excitement a group of 28 girls in Year 8 and 9, along with umpires, teachers and parents enjoyed a 10 day tour of New Zealand. We first flew to New Zealand’s North Island, where we kicked off in Wellington.
We played games against Hutt Valley High, visited Te Papa Tongarewa Museum and climbed among the trees at the Adrenalin Forest. We then went onto Palmerston North, where we played another set of games before heading to Rotorua.
We got to experience many attractions such as a skyline luge ride, jet boating, thermal pools and a Maori cultural evening. The tour finished off in Auckland where we played a two day tournament and visited Parakai Springs. It was a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Japan Trip
My first trip to Japan was marked with warm welcomes, smiles, hugs and enthusiastic bowing. Everyone at Ushiku greatly extended themselves and gave us their time so enthusiastically.
Japan is a proud nation with unique culture, attractions and hospitable people. From the traditional, cultural visit to Miyajima Island to the modern facets of Tokyo, we were amazed with its wonderful contrasts.
I will always treasure this opportunity and remember the friendliness and hospitality of the Japanese students and families we met.
