At least that’s what the bookmakers say.
Betting agency Sportsbet has released its odds for the next state and federal elections, with markets for individual electorates as well as which parties will be in power after voters go to the polls.
If the odds are to believed Mr Gee – the incumbent member for Calare – looks all but certain to retain the seat for The Nationals, with his victory offered at a prohibitive return of $1.01.
The Calare market has only two other options: Labor ($21) and the Greens ($51), neither of which have named a candidate for the election.
If the odds reflect reality, Mr Gee will find himself in opposition for the first time in his federal career, with the Bill Shorten-led Labor party a $1.16 prospect to win back power from Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s Coalition.
The date of the nationwide poll itself is also open to wagering, with May 2019 the most likely month the nation will head to the polls at a quote of $1.50, while December this year and February and March next year are on the second line of betting at $5.
Elsewhere in the Central West, Sportsbet’s analysts believe Mark Coulton is a $1.01 prospect to retain the seat of Parkes for the Nationals, with Labor ($19) and the Greens ($34) the only other betting options.
In the state realm, Mr Donato is at $1.40 in the Orange seat’s market, ahead of the yet-to-be-announced Coalition candidate ($2.60), Labor’s Luke Sanger ($26), and the Greens ($51).
The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers incumbent would be well served to stave off any complacency in his favouritism, as he himself was a $5 outsider just a month out from his 2016 byelection win over Nationals candidate Scott Barrett.
In Bathurst, Paul Toole is priced at $1.04 to retain the seat, with Labor’s Beau Riley also in the frame at $10.
According to the odds Troy Grant’s likely successor in the Dubbo electorate will be his Nationals replacement Dugald Saunders, who at $1.01 is out in front of his Labor rival Stephen Lawrence ($14) and the Greens’ Rod Pryor ($51).
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s Coalition is fancied to retain power in Macquarie Street, quoted at $1.45 against opposition leader Michael Daley’s Labor party ($2.80).
