That’s the simple and strong message being heralded by the city’s anti-domestic violence campaigners ahead of White Ribbon Day on Friday.
Housing Plus has asked the public to join it for a march from the Anson Street Arcade to the Southcourt, where the crowd will be invited to take the White Ribbon oath to help prevent men’s violence against women.
Head of community services at Housing Plus Penny Dordoy said the support they’ve received for The Orchard, the Orange Domestic and Family Violence Crisis Centre, is an everyday reminder of how committed the city is to ending domestic violence.
“Over the past two years, all tiers of government, local businesses, community groups, service providers and individuals have come together to show their support through funding, volunteering their time and services, through donations of goods, money and expertise, all towards making The Orchard a safe place for women and children to flee domestic and family violence,” she said.

“Today we are asking for the Orange community to walk beside us on this very important day.”
Housing Plus has put the call out for 60 volunteer women to each hold a card with the name of a woman who lost her life to domestic violence this year.
These women will climb the museum stairs and lie down beside a white ribbon which will be painted on the roof in commemoration of the lives lost.
Officer in Charge of Orange police station, Chief Inspector Peter Atkins will join colleagues in Friday’s march and White Ribbon pledge.
He said domestic and family violence is a crime that does not discriminate.
“It affects people from all walks of life and spans the entire geography of this state, including Orange,” Chief Inspector Atkins said.
Orange police officers will wear white ribbons as part of the international campaign, which invites populations around the world to stand in solidarity.
“Never underestimate the significant role you can play in addressing the scourge of domestic and family violence,” said Chief Inspector Atkins.
The march will begin at 10:15am outside the arcade.
