Miss Kilotat was among the 18 princesses to take part in the LiveBetter Debutante Ball, donning the white dress and learning the formal dances for the second time, having debuted once in high school.
“She just wanted to get all dressed up. We had such a fabulous night,” Mrs Newell said.
Under the theme ‘A Love Story’, 14 young women with an intellectual disability from Orange and four from Sydney danced to Taylor Swift’s It’s A Love Story.
LiveBetter’s marketing officer Sim Madigan said it was a celebration of all sorts of love, including community, family and romantic.
“The night is about giving these gorgeous young people the chance to shine and be in the spotlight and know they are valued members of the community,” she said.
Each debutant was presented to Member for Calare Andrew Gee; including four debutantes who traveled from Sydney as part of a documentary about love which will air on SBS next year.
“On of the highlights of the night was the interaction that our debs had with the debs from Sydney. Phone numbers were exchanged and everyone got to meet someone new,” Ms Madigan said.
The deb partners took part in lessons once a week for the past two months which resulted in them "nailing it” when it came to the formal dance, according to Ms Madigan.
