The Glenroi Community Group has revealed it has been working on a series of ideas to develop an action plan for the suburb.
Group member Neil Jones said the group now wanted to see greater community involvement in the planning.
He called on the community to attend the group’s next meeting on Monday night, November 19, at 6pm at the Glenroi Community Centre in Garema Road.
“Ideas currently being discussed by the group include the formation of a Glenroi United Sporting Club to encourage participation in a range of team sports that are fully inclusive of ages and sexes,” he said.
Mr Jones said neighbourhood beautification and providing more facilities at Edye Park and Glenroi Oval, including a “proper skate park and BMX track,” were also on the agenda.
He said the group wanted to develop closer working relationships with local school communities and involve other community groups in its planning.
“The Glenroi Community Group is wanting to encourage more Glenroi residents to attend meetings of the group and contribute to the development of a Glenroi Action Plan,” he said.
The group wants residents to have their say and to play a role.

“The group wants residents to have their say and to play a role in projects and activities that might be planned.”
Mr Jones said “very few” community members were coming to the meetings. “It varies between one and six,” he said.
He said Orange councillors Jason Hamling and Stephen Nugent would be at Monday’s meeting.
Mr Jones said representatives of the Department of Family and Community Services and the Land and Housing Corporation had attended previous meetings.
He said the group had already achieved some successes including establishing an after school care youth activities program in the Community Centre and a basketball court in Edye Park.
He said there had also been upgrades to Glenroi Oval, improved lighting and the demolition of the Kurim Shopping Centre.
“However, there is still work to be done to address social issues and to provide opportunities for all Glenroi residents to enjoy recreational facilities, neighbourhood amenities, cultural activities and personal development and education, in a safe and secure environment,” he said.
He said the group would seek to work with school groups.
“It has got to come back to the schools, there has got to be a closer relationship,” he said.
Cr Nugent, the chair of council’s Services Policy committee, urged the local community to get involved.
“We need a really integrated approach that involves all the stakeholders and most importantly the local community,” he said.
“The key is to get everyone involved rather than just a band-aid approach every so often.
“It is a long term investment. It is not something that is going to solved in six months or 12 months.
“There are some great people here, some people who want to make a change, who want to be active but it has got to go beyond those one or two people. It is about harnessing that energy and keeping people involved.
“Because unless it comes from that grass roots up it is not going to work.”
Cr Nugent said it was a vital time for input from community groups as the council was starting to prepare next year’s budget.
