The failure to draw sufficient starters for a proposed two-year-old event was the only negative when the nominations for next week’s meeting were released.
A whopping 172 nominations came in for the other seven races.
Dubbo Turf Club general manager admitted there were very few two-year-olds in work around the region at the moment, with most to start up in the coming weeks and months before targeting a potential start in the famed $100,000 Wellington Boot feature.
Gordon said ideally the Dubbo club would host an event in the lead-up to that feature event.
“We’ll work with other clubs around the region and next year try and find a more suitable time of year,” Gordon said.
Outside of the two-year-old race, Gordon described the nominations as “incredible”. There is still every chance next meeting’s could feature eight races as the Class 1 Handicap (1100m) could be split into two events after attracting a huge 37 nominations.
A benchmark 66 sprint over 1000m shapes as the day’s highlight, with the likes of Kylie Kennedy’s Shadow Force, the in-form Escebee, and the returning Ori On Fire all put forward.
The Cameron Crockett-trained Ori On Fire only just missed out on a place in the Country Championships final last preparation.
Final fields are released on Friday.
