Weatherzone meteorologist Tom Hough said November rain is unlikely to give any significant respite to farmers in the state.

“Any rain is welcome and it will add a little bit of moisture. But it is not a huge deluge,” he said.

A warning was issued for a storm on Thursday afternoon, with severe thunderstorms likely to produce large hailstones and heavy rainfall.

The day’s rain was expected to bring up to five millimetres of rain in Orange, Bathurst, Lithgow and Mudgee.

“Otherwise the rest of the areas in the Central West looks dry,” Mr Hough said.

“The temperatures will cool as we get into the weekend, but it will again climb up next week and remain 1 to 2 degrees above the average temperature in most parts of the Central West.

Mr Hough said rain will start to push across the Central West from Tuesday. 

“The most significant parts of rain is to come on Wednesday as the cold front and low pressure trough move across NSW,” Mr Hough said.

On Wednesday, rain is expected to be between 10 and 20 millimetres in most parts of the Central West. 

Mr Hough said, with the exception of Mudgee, most parts of the Central West have already received half of their long-term monthly rain in November.

Orange has gathered 36 millimetres against a monthly average of 77 millimetres.
