Police said the boy died after a creek bed collapsed while he and two other boys were fishing at a property near Molong on Saturday.
Emergency services, including two NSW ambulance crews and a helicopter, were called to the Mitchell Highway property just after 2pm.

Department of Education spokesman Grant Hatch said counselling was being provided for students and teachers.
“It will be available for as long as it is needed,” he said.
Police have been told three boys were fishing on the creek bed about 35 kilometres north of Orange when it collapsed.
The child, whose name has not been released, was treated for critical injuries sustained during the incident, but died at the scene.
Officers from Central West Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and prepare a report for the coroner.
