The Botanic Gardens will host the event starting at 5.30pm.
This year’s movie is The Greatest Showman, rated PG, which will screen at sunset.
Newcastle Permanent Orange assistant branch manager Olivia Haig said it had become a popular event.
“It is something very different in Orange. Sometimes we have less attractions for children,” she said.
“And older generations are reminded of being back in the drive-ins.
“It has been welcomed very well by the Orange community. The Orange [Newcastle Permanent staff] team definitely love getting in amongst it.”
Orange is one of 16 locations which will host Cinema Under the Stars this year.
“Since 2008, Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars has brought families and communities together by providing free outdoor cinema events across regional NSW,” Ms Haig said.
“Our sixth event in Orange is expected to attract 1600 people.”
Ms Haig said the biggest Orange crowd at a previous event was 2500 people.
“It depends on the weather. It could be from 1500-2500,” she said.
“The entertainment starts from 5.30pm with singers, musicians, jugglers and hula hoops and plenty of food and drink.”
Ms Haig said there would also be a circus workshop and football activities with music by Laura Zarb and Gabrielle Flanagan.
Entry is free, bring your own dinner or food and non-alcoholic drinks can be purchased on site.
“People are encouraged to bring along their picnic rugs and picnics,” Ms Haig said.
The Greatest Showman is a circus-based musical which stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Michelle Williams.
The story is inspired by PT Barnum's creation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus in the US and its stars.
Released late last year, the film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards.
