Although fuel prices have come down from a four-and-a-half year high, the drop hasn’t been very significant.
On Sunday, the average petrol price in Orange was 156.4 cents per litre.
In terms of the Central West, that was cheaper than both Dubbo (160 cents) and Young (160.7 cents), but more expensive than both Bathurst (154.5 cents) and Lithgow (142.4 cents), which boasted the region’s best bowser value.
Regional motorists will get it at a cheaper price before Christmas.
- NRMA spokeswoman Rebecca Page
NRMA spokeswoman Rebecca Page said motorists can expect more relief before Christmas.
“We have started to see a very small fall over the last two weeks. The prices should be falling faster than they are,” Ms Page said.
Ms Page said prices are coming down across Australia at the moment, and she expected “prices to continue to fall over the next two to three weeks”.
“Regional motorists will get it at a cheaper price before Christmas,” she said.
Ms Page said Orange motorists heading away on weekends or summer holidays vacations were well advised to examine prices regionally when seeking the best value.
She added currently petrol prices are cheaper in Sydney compared with regional areas.
“The price cuts in Sydney at the moment are relatively good and around the mid-130s, which is such a welcome relief considering we have been seeing an average of around 150s,” she explained.
“It takes some time to filter these to regional areas for many reasons including the logistics, transporting and different fuel markets.”
The NRMA said reason for a drop in price was the result of an increase in oil production by the oil producing countries such as Saudi Arabia and Libya, and a stronger Australian dollar.
