Orange City kick-started their 2018-19 Royal Hotel Cup campaign with a victory over the still-winless Centrals on Friday night, thanks largely to a blistering innings from hard-hitting opener Dave Boundy.

The veteran left-hander belted 10 fours and two sixes at Wade Park on his way to 91 not out from the top of the order, carrying his bat and leading the Warriors to a bumper total of 6-147 from their 20 overs, one that proved a touch too big for the gallant red and blacks.
Centrals made a fist of the chase but in the end wickets falling at crucial times, mainly after bats had made starts, proved costly for the Daryl Kennewell-led outfit, eventually they fell 19 short of their target at 5-128.
The victory pushes Orange City to third in pool A and just outside the finals frame, they’re equal on points with both Lithgow and St Pat’s Old Boys but trail each side significantly on net run rate.
For Centrals the loss, their second of the tournament after being hammered by St Pat’s Old Boys first-up, is a huge blow to their finals hopes.
With two losses from as many starts the red and blacks are fourth in pool A and will now need to win both of their remaining preliminary games and hope a plethora of other results go their way too.
After City skipper Ed Morrish won the toss and batted Boundy went ballistic although he lost opening partner Craig Rogan (7) early.
He combined with marquee Stu Naden (25) – a title winner with the Warriors in 2012-13, who’s now playing in Dubbo – to add 67 for the second wicket though, before taking control and pushing the side to a more than respectable 6-147.
Fletcher Rose was the best of Centrals’ bowlers, taking 3-20.
All of Centrals’ top four made starts, with Dean Turner (18) and Nathan Gander (25) putting on 41 to start the chase well. Jack Dodds (20) and Max Dodds (32 not out) both battled valiantly after that, but the red and blacks ran out of overs with 19 to get.
Naden backed his effort with the bat by taking 2-16 from his four overs, while Harry McGregor (1-26) and Josh Cheney (1-21) both snared a wicket as well.
The 2018-19 Royal Hotel Cup season continues on Wednesday night when St Pat’s Old Boys face Kinross, before reigning champions Centennials Bulls take on CYMS on Friday evening.
