Dean Mirfin’s Worldly Pleasure romped to victory in the second at Racing Orange’s Poet’s Race Day on Friday afternoon, but Alison Smith’s Supreme Gem impressed as well, running second to continue an encouraging start to her career.

The Bathurst trainer’s four-year-old ($1.75 favourite) led from start to finish and never looked troubled, while Supreme Gem ($6) was forced to the outside lane but battled on and hit the line well to finish a touch under two lengths back.
It was the latter’s first run after being spelled some six months ago and just her second career start, both of which have now netted placings, she ran third at Dubbo on debut.
For Mirfin’s mare, the victory in the On Trac Ag F&M Maiden Plate (1000 metres) was obviously her first, coming after two placings in her three other career starts.
She was also first-up after being spelled for 14 weeks following a fourth finish at Bathurst in July, which came after back-to-back thirds in her first two starts.
