Several announcements have been made to fund various stages of the road in the past year, and councillors asked on Wednesday which stages could progress. 

Acting technical services director Wayne Gailey said stage two, from Huntley Road to Elsham Avenue, was completely funded.

The stage includes a bridge across the railway line and a separated bicycle lane on the northern side. 

Councillor Stephen Nugent welcomed the bicycle lane given workers at Wangarang rode their bikes to work.

“I’d hate to see their access to get from home to work curtailed in any way,” he said. 

Mr Gailey said stage three from Elsham Avenue to the Mitchell Highway was 50 per cent funded through a federal program and the council had applied for state funding.

Stage four from Anson Street to Pinnacle Road has also received half the necessary funding from the state government.

“You have to balance state funding with federal funding, they seem to work on a 50-50 basis, so we’ll be looking for federal funding to match that,” he said.

Councillors raised concerns about the intersection of Ploughmans Lane and Cargo Road, which will form a future stage of the road.

Councillor Jason Hamling asked when the dogleg intersection would be replaced with a roundabout.

“That corner is a bit of Russian roulette in the mornings,” he said.

However, Mr Gailey said it was still in the early stages of planning.
