The Bathurst trainer will be bringing at least four runners to the colour city, the majority being fresh in their campaigns.
The only runner with plenty of starts to their name this preparation is Winterconi, a Nicconi mare who has never been far away from the front in her Central West attempts.
Winterconi has been unlucky not to add more than one win to her name throughout her career but Mirfin hopes that can change in the Class 1 Handicap (1280 metres).
“She ran very well the other day at Bathurst [for third]. They ran a track record in the race and she was the leader, so I’ve brought her back to a shorter race,” he said.
“She’s looking and running better than ever. She’s come out of that run really well.”
Wordly Pleasure, Skipper Joe and last start winner Kind Reward are all set to start for Mirfin.
The Bathurst trainer will leave it as late as possible to determine whether Winterconi’s rising half-sister, Jetgirl, will make a first up start at the meeting.
“Wordly Pleasure has found a lovely race and will likely start a short priced favourite, from what I can see. She’s got plenty of improvement to come. She’s a smart filly,” Mirfin said.
“I was disappointed with Skipper Joe’s performance at Bathurst. He was last in his first start but things just didn’t go to plan with him.
“When things go wrong in a race, especially when they’re green and young, it can all fall apart, which it did.
“Kind Reward was a last start winner at Bathurst and he’s trained on well since then. He’s jumping up in grade a bit from a maiden to a class 3.
“It’s a big jump but it’s not an overly strong class 3. I feel like he should be very competitive.”
Narrow Neck Nelson, third behind Kind Reward last start, and Catcha Crown will be starting for Bathurst’s Peter Stanley.
Meeting starts 1.30pm.
