Duntryleague’s James Conran heads into this week’s AVJennnings NSW Open at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club in super form, thanks to his whopping win in last weekend’s Canowindra Open.
Conran shot 102 in last weekend’s 27-hole event to claim the Canowindra title, just weeks after sealing his maiden Bathurst victory, the latter ensured him qualification for the NSW Open.
Conran won the Canowindra title by a huge margin of nine shots from fellow Duntryleague star Robert Payne, and will be hoping he takes similar form into the four-day, 72-hole NSW Open – although only those who make the cut play on days three and four – which boasts a field of 156 and total prize pool of $400,000.
Conran is one of 43 amateurs in the 2018 field and kicks off his campaign at 1.25pm on Thursday afternoon from the 10th tee, he’s grouped with Douglas Klein and Jei Loh Khai on the opening day.
One of the NSW Open’s leading chances is expected to be Queensland’s Anthony Quayle, who returns to play after securing his Japan Golf Tour playing rights in his first season overseas.
