The owner of 50 Kite Street, Scott Gilbank, will open his gate for the day as part of Orange Open Gardens.
“[Mena] is an oasis in the CBD, it’s like a mini Cook Park,” Mr Gilbank said.
A fundraiser for Orange Public School, the open day will give a glimpse of a variety of gardens, from Josie and Gary Sander’s very new garden on Moriarty Crescent to Mr Gilbank’s very old.
Established by James Dalton as a gift to his son in 1875, the property once housed three acres of garden, which is now half an acre.
While the yard may be smaller, Chinese Poplar, Twisted Willow and Pine Trees which have soared to 40 metres high still inhabit the space.
“The Daltons were the Murdochs of their day,” said Mr Gilbank.
“What’s been groomed and sheared is just the front and rear of the garden to give it some formality.”
In addition to the gardens sneak peak, artist Danny Cooke will give watercolour drawing workshops at Turner residence at Clifton Grove and illustrator Freya Blackwood will have watercolour artworks for sale at OPS.
Tickets and maps will be available from the school on Kite Street from 9am, or from any participating garden between 10am-5pm.
