Centrals’ undefeated start to the Orange District Cricket Association second grade season looks to have come to an end after Saturday’s opening day of the fourth round, unless the red and blacks can flip a first innings loss into an outright win on day two that is.

Looking for a fourth consecutive victory to maintain their place atop the standings Centrals were rolled for just 48 at Kinross Main Oval, before restricting the students to 126 thanks to a Ben Winslade’s five-wicket haul (5-14) and finishing the day 2-24 in their second dig.
That leaves the Kyle Nonnenmacher-led side 54 behind heading into the second day’s play, and needing a big effort to first eradicate that deficit, set the students a target and then bowl their young rivals out too.
The opening day of Saturday’s other second grade game between Orange City and Cavaliers didn’t go ahead, after the Country Club wicket was soaked in Friday night’s storm.
As the home side, the Warriors were responsible for putting the covers down that night but didn’t, and the first day was abandoned as a result. Whether City will lose points for the indiscretion is yet to be confirmed, however the second day of the game will be played this weekend.
In third grade Spring Hill continued their winning ways with a comfortable victory over CYMS, triumphing by 149 runs at Spring Hill Oval.
Led by Dal Marsh (51), Spring Hill piled on 9-198 before rolling CYMS for 49, with Tom Wright (13) the only batter to hit double figures.
Gladstone (7-248) also handed Orange City (183) their first defeat of the season, with Luke Wilson the star of the show. He pumped 74 before rounding out a player-of-the-game effort by taking 4-36 from his five overs.
Waratahs (198) also defeated Cavaliers (178) by 10 runs on Saturday afternoon, with Centrals’ result against Kinross unavailable at time of publication.
In Centenary Cup half-tons from Simon Kemp and Dan Miller led CYMS to a win over Orange City, they scored 54 and 53 respectively to help their side chase down the Warriors’ total of 8-140 with three wickets in hand.
The result of Kinross’ derby, between Blue and the Super Kings, was unavailable at time of publication.
