The facility’s expansion included the construction of a private area for parents and families, with a space for mothers to express breast milk for their babies in the nursery.
The work was privately funded, with Cadia Valley Operations donating $40,000 and the Premi-Babes Association of Orange to other $30,000.

Neonatal and Paediatric Services Nurse Unit Manager Diane Gardner said everyone in the department was “very grateful”.
“This area will significantly improve the experience for new parents and families, providing privacy and dedicated space for families as well,” she said.

Orange Health Service General Manager Catherine Nowlan said the donations would enable the facility and its staff to meet clinical service demand.
“Our Special Care Nursery services a large catchment in the Central West,” she explained.
“The service provided to neonates is critical and a very important part of the Orange Health Service.”
