Nobody likes to write stories about young lives ruined and families facing unimaginable tragedy but sometimes that’s what we do.
Driving is one of the last rites of passage for teenagers and while it’s a time of incredible excitement and new-found freedom it’s one we parents dread.
The tragic story of young Lachlan Hobby, whose drunken skylarking resulted in catastrophic injuries to his best friend Josh Farr, highlights just how dangerous drink driving can be.
Even the judge said he derived no pleasure in sending Lachlan to jail but he felt he had no choice but to do so in an effort to deter other young people from drink driving.
Let’s hope the story of what happened to Lachlan and Josh helps other young people in our community make better choices.
One of a parent’s toughest jobs is giving your child the space to become an independent adult, and trusting them to make good decisions.
It’s a leap of faith, but it’s one we all must make.
All the best, Tracey
