There’s something glamorous about the Melbourne Cup, which means you’re lounge room is no place to watch the race that stops a nation.
So don a Spring frock, leave the high-vis at home and head to one of the below to be part of the action on November 6.
1) Three course lunch at The Greenhouse cup party
Just because there’s no horse race in Orange on Tuesday it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on dressing up dapper for the day.
The Greenhouse of Orange will host a three course sit down lunch in The Private Room and a Fashions on the Field event with prizes for the best threads.
Tickets are $99 and includes See Saw wines.
2) Pizza and beer at the Nobby
For something a little more low-key, The Canobolas Hotel will put on lunch from 12pm with the race on the big screen from then.
While the sun is forecast for Tuesday it might be worth calling to book a table inside as the afternoon looks a bit like rain.
3) BYO booze for a lunch which doesn’t break the bank
In a rare twist for Melbourne Cup day, The Blind Pig Bar and Cafe is putting on an event which will be friendly for your wallet.
Between 1-3pm, the McNamara Street establishment will put on a set-menu lunch, you can bring your own booze too – with no corkage fee.
Horses will be on the screens, prizes will be awarded for fascinators and the cheap alcohol arrangement will mean more money to blow on the races.
Tickets are $35.
4) Have a lawn party at the Duntryleague
Leave the golf clubs at home.
Duntryleague will host a party on the grass with a glass of Printhie Sparkling on arrival and a three course canape menu to keep things civilised.
All the racing will be on the big screen, all the fashions will be on the green and there will be live music from 4pm.
Tickets are $90.
5) Eat well and eat lots at the Orange City Bowling Club
Buffet + wine or beer = $20.
It kicks off at 12pm and bookings are required.
The club’s Melbourne Cup celebrations will also include lucky door prizes, sweeps, phantom races and the races on the televisions.
Loose pants are encouraged.
