During this time, Orange Rotary, in partnership with the Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange, Landcare, Hybrid Energy Systems, the Agrestic Grocer, Orange City Council and TAFE NSW will host a variety of events designed to provide information on waste management, up-cycling, smart energy and the sustainable management of our own backyards and domestic environments.
One such event will see students educated in waste management by the EnvironMentors – a group of science educators associated with the Keep Australia Beautiful movement.
Energy prices continue to be a matter of concern for all sectors of our community.
On Monday and Tuesday the EnvironMentors will be helping students address the issue of waste at home and at school through recycling workshops at St Mary's Catholic Primary School and Orange Public School.
On Friday there will be a cooking competition for high school students which emphasises the use of local produce and minimal waste in food preparation.
The theme of waste management will be continued on Sunday, November 11, when there will be a chance to hear waste warriors tell their stories about their journey to develop a minimum waste lifestyle.
Council has also risen to the ‘War on Waste’ challenge and will be conducting a presentation on Wednesday, November 14 to inform our community about council's latest innovations in waste management.
Experts in up-cycling, Boomerang Bags, will be at the Orange Farmers Market on Saturday, November 10 to demonstrate how to make a useful bag out of an old t-shirt.
Energy prices continue to be a matter of concern for all sectors of our community.
ECCO and council will be conducting a smart energy workshop at the Orange City Bowling Club on energy management.
This workshop aims to provide energy management solutions for householders and businesses.
To assist us with making our backyards more sustainable in these dry times, Landcare will be holding hands-on workshops on efficient garden watering techniques, and how to attract native bees to your garden at the showground.
