CYMS duo Angus and Tom Wilson have been living out that dream for the past five years, kicking off in the Centenary Cup about five years ago.

They’ve played together on and off in the years since then, in Centenary Cup and second grade, but this week the two will walk out onto the field in Orange’s top grade together for the first time when they play Kinross. 

While the younger Wilson played last week, it will be Angus’ first top grade game this year.

It will resonate especially with him, considering he played with his own father – Tom’s grandfather – when he was younger.

Angus said it would be special having the two of them play together in first grade. 

“It’ll be fantastic, I’m really excited,” he said. 

“When we started, I thought we might play a bit together but not necessarily first grade.” 

There’s been a bit of change in the two of them, with Tom obviously growing into his cricketing ability, but Angus has also developed after his 15 year sabbatical from the game before he started with his son. 

The two have batted together on occasion, but as Tom bats in the middle order, Angus said it only happened “when he sticks around”. 

They’re yet to run each other out, but there is banter between the two of them, especially when the pair drop catches off each other’s bowling. 

According to Angus there is more of it coming from Tom than goes the other way, but less than three minutes later he mentioned one of Tom’s dropped catches in a “crucial part of a game” a few years ago. 

The two bowl in partnerships quite often, with both bowling seamers – Tom with “a bit more pace than me these days”, according to his old man. 

He said the pair’s journey was a huge wrap on the Centenary Cup, which he said was a “great way to bring juniors into playing senior cricket”. 

He also wanted to thank CYMS for sticking with them over the journey. 

Their opponents in Centrals will be without captain Daryl Kennewell, with Dean Turner taking the reins in his absence. 

Kennewell will be back for the second week of the contest, and says despite a difficult start to the season it’s not panic stations just yet.

“We’ve had a rough start but we can come back from that,” he said. 

Mitch Stanley and Rowan Dray are set to debut for Centrals at Wade Park.
