The fire broke out in a laneway behind a food store in Johnston Street, Fitzroy, about 1am on Friday, September 26.
No one was injured by the fire spread to the rear of the business, causing significant damage and has been deemed suspicious.
Police released images of a man that may be able to assist, who was believed to be carrying clothing at the time.
