The Central West AFL may have seen the last of Michael Rothnie on the field – at least for the foreseeable future – leaving everyone who’s ever had to try to tackle the Tigers’ midfielder breathing a sigh of relief.

Rothnie has signed to play with Riverina-based Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong Football Netball Club in 2019, which is where former teammate Josh Bubnich spent his 2018 season.
“I came back to Orange to win a flag and I’ve done that, it’s time for me to move on. I feel like I’m done with this league, I need something with a bit more of a challenge,” he said.
“The Riverina league is a bit stronger so it’ll be a good chance to test myself.”
No-one who has seen Rothnie on or off the field for the Tigers can doubt his professionalism around his footy, and after winning four flags at the Tigers since 2013, Rothnie arguably doesn’t have much more to achieve in the CWAFL.
“I want to go somewhere where they can match my intensity, they really know their footy down there,” he said.
Rothnie said Bubnich, as well as another few friends down at Ganmain had put in glowing reports of the club, and the chance to play with Bubnich again was a drawcard.
While Bubnich has reportedly signed on again with the Riverina club, Rothnie said he wasn’t 100 per cent sure if he’d be lining up alongside him depending on work commitments, but was hoping to do so.
“We know how each other plays, we’re good mates,” Rothnie said.
Rothnie notched up his 100th game in Tigers colours this season.
