Traditionally, a Diwali celebration – also known as the festival of lights – is an event that is celebrated by billions of people from Indian backgrounds.
Desi Aussies of Orange president Vijay Bohra said event on Saturday, October 27 would build on the success of a similar gathering last year.
“At last year’s dinner, hundreds of people enjoyed a fantastic meal and terrific family occasion,” Vijay Bohra said.
“Ticket sales are off to a good start and we’re confident of another great night.”
It was a wonderful evening of cultural activities and superb Indian cuisine.
- Mayor Reg Kidd, speaking about last year's event
Mr Bohra said the evening presented an opportunity for any member of the community to get together and enjoy some wonderful food and entertainment while at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.
“The last event, a Bollywood night, raised money for communities affected by the Kerala floods,” Mr Bohra explained.
“This time we will be raising funds for farmers who are affected by the drought.
“We will be passing on proceeds from ticket sales to Pay it Forward and Feed4Farmers.”
Mayor Reg Kidd attended last year’s event, along with member for Orange Philip Donato, member for Calare Andrew Gee and the Indian Consul General to Australia.
“It was a wonderful evening of cultural activities and superb Indian cuisine,” Cr Kidd said, encouraging the public to snap up tickets for this year’s version.
Tickets will not be available at the door on the night, and must be purchased before Monday from the Overlander Indian Restaurant, Anita Grocery Store or Red Pepper Indian Cuisine.
The ticket includes a three-course meal and the evening’s entertainment, including contemporary Bollywood-infused music.
The event will be held at the Orange Function Centre, starting at 6pm and concluding at 10pm.
The Desi Aussies of Orange is non-for-profit association made up of Orange residents from many countries who have Indian culture in common.
