The work came at the request of councillor Jason Hamling, who wanted to take advantage of the lake’s low water levels to rejuvenate the area for residents and tourists.
Cr Hamling said the sand was spread across swimming areas on both sides of the dam wall.
“It was exactly what I wanted – there’s deep sand for kids to build sand castles and they can walk in bare feet without getting weeds in their feet, so it’s happy days at the moment,” he said.
“We’re still talking to the [NSW Environmental Protection Authority] about getting their weed harvester to come out to get the disgusting weeds out while we’ve got the low lake levels.”
