NO one loves trains like a little boy, a point proved beyond all doubt by one youngster when the Orange Society of Model Engineers held their monthly miniature railway rides at Matthews Park on Saturday afternoon.
While happy with his multiple trips around the circuit, a four-year old boy obviously wanted a more hands-on involvement in the proceedings.
So for 20 minutes he acted as conductor, standing at the track’s south-eastern pedestrian crossing, halting and waving through foot traffic as trains approached the final bend before the station.
He even admonished a group of suitably chastened adults for attempting what he reasoned to be an unsafe crossing.
Saturday’s edition of the Orange tradition was a special one, with the Orange and District Historical Society arranging displays fir the public to view, including miniature steam engines, railway memorabilia and historic photos.
