The School in a Bag concept was picked up by two Daybreak members – John and Lois Willing – on an exchange with the Rotary Club of Somerset in the UK.
The fundraiser involves preparing school-ready backpacks for students in impoverished countries, assembling stationary, lunchboxes, water bottles and more.
Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak school in a bag committee member Joan Raftery said the club would be aiming to send their donations to East Timor and Thursday Island.
“The English club sent their bags to Africa but we thought we’d start a bit closer to home in Dili and Thursday Island,” Mrs Raftery said.
She said the club was hoping to put together as many bags as possible, and said a group of members might drop them off in person next year.
The high tea and fashion parade is a first for Daybreak, which Mrs Raftery said was “something a bit different”.
The fashion will be provided by Swish and held at Waratahs Sports Club, who are providing the venue free of charge.
Anyone is invited, with tickets $20 per person. Contact 0427 005 748.
