A MAN who escaped custody from a minimum-security correctional facility in the Hunter region was apprehended by police in Orange on Thursday morning.

The 41-year-old allegedly escaped the facility in Muswellbrook at about 6am on Wednesday.
Following a wide-scale search, about 7am on Thursday Central West Police District officers attended a car park in Byng Street, and arrested the fugitive without incident.
It is unknown how the man covered the more than 300 kilometres that separates the two locations in a single day.
He was taken to Orange police station and charged with escaping from lawful custody.
The man was refused bail and will appear in Orange Local Court on Thursday.
